The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) commissioned a Kiwi Physics CD-ROM which is aimed at encouraging students to explore a career in physics by showing real-life examples of physics in an entertaining, interactive, educational and fun way. I designed, illustrated and built (in Freehand, Photoshop and Flash) a module which covers the creation, transmission and use of electricity.
Claremont Estate
Website: claremont-estate.com
Client: Claremont Estate
My professional status: contractor at Oryx Technologies
The existing website required a complete overhaul, redesign and redevelopment to reduce and refine the large amount of text on each page. I rebuilt the site and streamlined the CSS styles and includes sitewide. I also made a subsite based on the client's PowerPoint presentation and added a Flash header to each page.

Transpower National Grid
Website: no longer online
Client: Transpower
My professional status: employee at Origin Design
Transpower wanted to find a way of transforming dry data (the development of the National Grid from 1913 to 2003) into an interesting and attractive format. I put together and animated a series of interactive Flash pages showing the Grid's development. The main graphics had been created by the designer in Photoshop, with the completed maps for each year created by another team member in Freehand.
Transpower

Meadow Fresh
Website: meadowfresh.co.nz
Client: Mainland Milk
My professional status: employee at Origin Design
I created a range of interchangeable and interlocking Flash animations which could be combined and reused on the site. The surfing dog animation was the most complex I had done at that point. I created it from the designer's rough pencil sketches, which I redrew in Freehand and imported into Flash, adding my redrawn characters and then animating the whole thing. The milk "wave" was the trickiest part - getting it to animate properly and then working on the timing to get it just right.
Origin Xmas card
Website: origindesign.co.nz/hohoho
Client: Origin Design
My professional status: employee at Origin Design
Origin Design wanted a funky and original Christmas card in an unusual format. I built an interactive Flash card (with audio) which was sent to all of Origin's clients. Each person received an email pointing them to a personalised page on the website, where they could view their own version of the card.

M-co
Website: m-co.com
Client: M-co
My professional status: employee at Origin Design
For an early version of the M-co website I had created from scratch a spinning globe and made 36 frames showing the globe at different points in one revolution. When the site was redesigned I created a new Flash animation of the spinning globe for the homepage of the website - giving the client a range of options to choose from in terms of file size, number of frames and spin speed.
Millie Smith
Website: milliesmith.com
Client: Millie Smith
My professional status: employee at Origin Design
Origin Design normally avoids Flash intros - but in this instance the Flash illustrates the delicate whimsical nature of the beautifully designed product. I completed the animation, which had been started by the designer, and built a series of pages for the browser Flash detection process.
Origin Design
Website: no longer online
Client: Origin Design
My professional status: contractor and then employee at Origin Design
I developed and built an interactive Flash animation for the Environ section of the website, where I followed the designer's storyboard sketches and created some elements (including the spinning house) in 3D animation software before bringing it into Flash.
